Name: Ben Wakeford
Country of origin: England
Home nation club: North London Cricket Club www.northlondoncc.co.uk
Year played for snowdogs: 2001/2
Batting Hand: Right
Bowling Hand/Style: Right...Fast ;)
Cricketing superstitions? Not really. I have got a crap old sunhat that Geoff Lawson gave me, which I wear to wind up any kit facists (usually captians..always batsmen ;).
Nickname(s) while at St.Bernards? WACO......or POM
Occupation while in Australia? Cowboy Gardener
Where and who did you live while in Aus? Mooney Ponds, Scatter's Place.
Favourite non-cricketing memory of Aus? I'm sure the best ones are the ones I don't remember too well :)
Favourite cricketing memory while playing for the Snowdogs? Taking a tough caught and bowled low down for my hatrick, before being half killed by my crazed teamates jumping on me.
How did you rate the standard of competition the Snowdogs play in? Very similar to the one we play at home...i.e. High
Best Performance for the Snowdogs? 4 for not too many on a flat one at Strathmore (I think)
Favorite Nightspot while in Aus? Why? Can't remeber any of the names, but there was a reason for that... There was one that we always went to after the games, which had a dance floor upstairs, dodgy music, and loose women, and stayed open til the sun came up. No further reason required ;).
5 Snowdogs you most enjoyed a night out with? and why?
Knighta: Never gives up
Hemma: Has no shame
Daff: Animal
Chisel: Female magnet
Changi: Verry funny man
Chances of seeing you back in Snowdogs colours? Very slim.....too old...but you never know....;)
Any last words about the club or your time in Australia? If I was younger and richer, and less engaged, I would come over every year.
What would you say about the club to other prospective recruits/international imports? Fine club, going places. Go for it. |

Right-hand top order batsman
Mark followed his North London team mate Ben to St Bernard's OCCC for the 2002/03 season. A capable top order batsman, Mark was a strong driver of the ball and excellent slip fieldsman. Struggling to find form early in the season, Mark began to find runs after the Xmas break. Highlights included highest scores of 33 in the 1st XI v Avondale Heights and 44 in the 2 nd XI v Keilor Park . Mark played in the 2 nd XI Grand Final and top scored in the 2 nd innings with 39 as they finished runners up.

Name: Mark Askew

Home nation club: North London CC
Year played for snowdogs: 2002/03
Batting Hand: Right
Bowling Hand/Style: Right
Cricketing superstitions?
Nickname(s) while at St.Bernards? Pom
Occupation while in Australia? Occasional Grass Cutter for Scatters.
Where and who did you live while in Aus? Carlton next to the Museum.
Favourite non-cricketing memory of Aus? Too many. All the different places I visited; watching England play and making my daughter in a hotel in Sydney Harbour! Scatters bathroom.
Favourite cricketing memory while playing for the Snowdogs? It wasn't scoring runs as I usually didn't...Playing in 45 degrees and nearly dying of heat stroke. Taking 3 stumpings in the only game I kept wicket. Catching everything at first slip. Watching Jordo drop everything that year. Playing in the second eleven grand final and top scoring, but disappointingly losing.
How did you rate the standard of competition the Snowdogs play? Good standard but tough conditions batting at St Bernards and playing over 2 weeks makes it challenging to get into form if you don't start well.
Best Performance for the Snowdogs? erm, er, was there one?
Favorite Nightspot while in Aus? The Crown in Melbourne Why? Always like a flutter.
5 Snowdogs you most enjoyed a night out with? and why? Knighter, Changy, Cloud, Jordo and Garvs. Top blokes who went out of their way to help me enjoy my stay.
Chances of seeing you back in Snowdogs colours? Very unlikely.
Any last words about the club or your time in Australia? Great experiences on and off the pitch. |
